Fireplace design can be approached from a few different angles depending on the situation. If the room is bare and you are embarking on a new construction project, the first step is to think about the size, colors, type of stone and your interior décor.
If your room is already in place and furnished, we can work with you to choose colors, stone size and type of textures to naturally blend with your interior design. Formal 17th and 18th century styles include Colonial, Federal and Georgian.
There are numerous options available including natural granite, stone veneers and precast. Options are available at different price points, including is New England Stone, Limestone, Rough Cuts, River Rock and various types of brick among others.
There are a number of considerations when choosing the right mantel for your stone fireplace.
Material options include granite or bluestone, salvaged wooden beams, rough sawn wood, custom milled wood and if you’re lucky to find the right piece, driftwood. The thickness, depth and length of the mantel should be considered along with size and style of the stone.
Color and texture of the mantel are additional features that should be considered.
The hearth is an important element to consider when designing your fireplace.
There are flush hearths that are floor level and raised hearths. You can sit or put your feet on a raised hearth which adds functionality that you do not get with a flush hearth. Both have their advantages. Hearth design is based on personal preference and can discussed during the design process.
